NEW YORK, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- L-3 Communications of New York announced Monday its acquisition of Airborne Technologies Inc., to enhance its position as a UAS solutions provider.
The acquisition was structured as an asset purchase for income tax purposes, L-3 said in a news release. ATI is expected to generate approximately $20 million of sales for the 12 months ending Dec. 31, 2010.
Additional details of the acquisition weren't disclosed.
ATI, which has headquarters in Virginia, provides highly specialized aeronautical engineering expertise, manufacturing and operations support for unmanned aircraft systems suitable for intelligence, defense and commercial commercial aerospace purposes.
"ATI will enhance L-3's overall position as a UAS solutions provider, adding to our portfolio of platforms, components and technologies available for our customers," said Michael T. Strianese, chairman, president and chief executive officer of L-3. "ATI is a leading innovator and platform provider in the small expendable UAS area and we look forward to expanding L-3's presence in this emerging high growth market."
