LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted Alelo TLT to build an Afghanistan-focused Virtual Cultural Awareness Trainer course for deploying troops.
Alelo said Thursday the trainer course would give Marines heightened knowledge of the local culture and language.
The VCAT is being developed as a team effort between the Marine Corps Systems Command/Program Manager Training Systems and the U.S. Joint Forces Command.
It will be available on JFCOM's Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) portal, it said.
"U.S. operations in Afghanistan are of critical importance and Alelo is eager to help our men and women serving there," Dr. Andre Valente, Alelo's CEO and CTO, said. "Alelo will build on and extend the technology and methodology used to create VCAT Horn of Africa and VCAT Northern Africa to deliver a robust and engaging training experience for warfighters deploying to Afghanistan."
VCAT courses provide online, mission-based culture and language training through methods such as game-based learning, storytelling, tutoring, and remediation.
Details of the contract were not disclosed.
