General Dynamics gets ammunition contracts

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 30 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has been tapped by the U.S. Army to make 25mm and 30mm ammunition, it said.

The two contracts from the Project Manager for Maneuver Ammunition Systems at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey have a combined value of more than $14 million.

The 30mm M789 High Explosive Dual Purpose round is the main munition used by personnel aboard Apache AH-64 helicopters, which are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

General Dynamics said Tuesday that successful Phase II development of a 25mm scalable fuze technology round will give U.S. Army Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Marine Corps LAV-25s the ability to hit targets in defilade through the use of an airburst projectile. Troops could also detonate the round within a hard target through a selectable or delayed-point detonation feature.

General Dynamics Ordinance and Tactical Systems is a leading manufacturer of direct and indirect fire munitions as well as shaped-charge warheads and propellants.
