MCLEAN, Va., June 11 (UPI) -- Science Applications International Corp. has been contracted to provide the U.S. Navy with next-generation network infrastructure logistical support services.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command selected SAIC to compete for task orders providing surface ships and submarines with new computer and data networking systems to replace aging technologies.

The task orders are part of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Common Afloat Local Area Network Infrastructure contracting vehicle.

"We look forward to supporting the U.S. Navy as they maintain and enhance their overall shipboard information technology capabilities," Tom Baybrook, SAIC senior vice president and business unit manager, said in a statement.

The CALI indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract is an effort by the Navy to upgrade its Combined Enterprise Regional Information Exchange System-Maritime system and the Integrated Shipboard Network Systems among several other mission critical systems.

Officials say the CALI contracting vehicle is worth $502 million to all the companies involved.
