MOSCOW, April 22 (UPI) -- Russian warships in the Sea of Japan tested supersonic missiles Thursday during joint maneuvers, the Russian navy announced.
The Russian navy, through its press service, said three warships fired supersonic cruise missiles as part of an exercise in the Sea of Japan.
The Pacific Fleet said it was normal to conduct range practices in the region. "But the maneuver today was unique because the guidance of the group of anti-cruise missile was given simultaneously from three ships," Russian state-news agency RIA Novosti quoted the Pacific Fleet as saying.
The target was marked by an accompanying aircraft and the Russian navy said the "enemy" during the test was defeated.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said Moscow remained "concerned" about U.S. plans to install a missile shield Poland, RIA Novosti added.
Nesterenko said Moscow was wary of U.S. plans to deploy a Patriot missile battery.
"Such unilateral steps on behalf of the United States cannot but raise our concerns," he said.
