Colombia contracts Textron for ASVs

NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The Colombian Defense Ministry has contracted Textron Marine and Land Systems to deliver its armored vehicle technologies as part of a Foreign Military Sale.

U.S. company Textron was awarded the contract to deliver 39 of its Armored Personnel Carriers, designed to protect soldiers and other security personnel from ballistic threats, to the Colombian Army along with associated logistics support services.

Textron says the $45.6 million contract, ordered through the Foreign Military Sales process, is for a delivery of its Armored Security Vehicles equipped with a cupola mounted weapons stations.

"Our Armored Security Vehicles and family of vehicles have an impressive track record around the world and are vital to United States and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan," Tom Walmsley, Textron Marine and Land Systems senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

"These vehicles will serve our Colombian allies well in the preservation of Colombia's peace and security."
