LONDON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The British Defense Ministry has contracted BVT Surface Fleet to provide the Royal Navy's new Type 45 class vessels with support services.
Quentin Davies, minister for defense equipment and support, announced the selection of BVT Surface Fleet to provide future maintenance services for the navy's new class of destroyer ships, the British Ministry of Defense reported.
Under the more than $510 million contract BVT Surface Fleet will provide future in-service maintenance support for the platform equipment and propulsion system among other requirements for the Type 45 class vessels.
"BVT bring in-depth knowledge of these destroyers that will assure the high quality support that is essential to the continued delivery of this world class capability," Davies said in a statement.
"The contract is expected to sustain around one hundred and twenty quality jobs, primarily in Portsmouth (England), and many more with key supply chain partners across the country, helping to retain the essential skills we need in this industry."
