GERMANTOWN, Md., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. company Hughes Network Systems announced the launch of its next-generation satellite router technology for the defense and government markets.
Hughes announced the launch of the HX280 broadband satellite router system. The HX280 router technology, designed to support defense and government applications and also commercial uses, provides secured carrier-grade Internet Protocol services.
Officials say the HX280, integrated with Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 cryptographic security, is part of an effort to strengthen secure communications capabilities for the military among other users.
"In designing the HX280, our goal was to build on the HX platform with enhanced security features required by the U.S. government and Department of Defense, and some of our more demanding commercial customers," Rick Lober, Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
"The HX280 combines high-end secure voice and data services with on-the-move capabilities, and ensures protection of critical security parameters. It has also been designed to operate with our simplified Network Management System available later this year."
