PITTSBURGH, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Converteam Inc. to provide the Zumwalt-class destroyer DDG-1000 program with long lead materials.
U.S. company Converteam was awarded the contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard. Under the $31 million deal, Converteam will provide long lead materials for the Zumwalt-class destroyer DDG-1000's Baseline Tactical High Voltage Power Subsystem, the system that distributes electrical power from the ship's turbine-generators.
Officials say the contract for materials support for the DDG-1000 Baseline Tactical High Voltage Power Subsystem also includes hardware, technical and integration support services.
"The project team is highly motivated to start this new phase of the DDG program and demonstrate the operation of the integrated system," Xavier Goy, Converteam project manager, said in a statement.
