The new Tri-Service Research Laboratory, projected to cost $69.9 million, is being constructed to support the transition of Fort Sam Houston to become the Defense Department Center for Excellence for medical training.

Officials say Jacobs and Skanska USA Building will work together as design partners for the construction of the new facility.

"We are pleased to be part of the Skanska design-build team for this facility, which will enable the Army, Navy and Air Force to simultaneously conduct research," Tom McDuffie, Jacobs Group vice president, said in a statement.

"We are equally excited to continue Jacobs' longstanding support to the tri-services -- the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force."
