MARLBOROUGH, Mass., July 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has contracted Raytheon to develop an interoperable network supporting communications from disparate systems.
U.S. company Raytheon was awarded the contract to further develop its Mobile Ad-Hoc Interoperability Gateway, or MAINGATE.
As part of the $24.4 million DARPA award, Raytheon will develop its MAINGATE to facilitate a military wireless network communication capability among disparate systems including as many as 30 different military and civil radios.
"Our MAINGATE solution enables legacy analog and digital communication systems to be networked," Jerry Powlen, Raytheon Network Centric Systems Integrated Communications Systems vice president, said in a statement.
"It includes an affordable, two-channel, high data rate, next-generation network-centric radio system. We continue to build on our Internet Protocol-based networking experience to deliver the most advanced systems to our troops at a much lower cost than other systems in development today."
