Honeywell to upgrade federal buildings

MINNEAPOLIS, June 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted Honeywell to provide security and energy-efficiency upgrades to federal buildings.

U.S. company Honeywell was among eight companies awarded a contract from the Army Corps of Engineers' Alabama-based Engineering and Support Center. Under the deal, Honeywell will install life safety and security systems at federal facilities in the United States and around the world.

The contract also includes upgrades and installation of utility monitoring and building control technologies among other requirements. Officials say the contract is worth as much as $650 million total in projects for the eight companies.

"The Army Corps of Engineers is focused on continuous process improvement and this program creates a standard procurement vehicle for boosting safety and comfort for employees and citizens, and reducing operating costs at facilities," Paul Orzeske, president of Honeywell Building Solutions, said in a statement.
