General Dynamics to support Marines' COCs

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted General Dynamics to provide upgrades to the Combat Operations Centers to support critical decision-making.

U.S. company General Dynamics says its C4 Systems business was contracted to integrate the Model G at the Marine Corps Combat Operations Centers. The COC Model G is an Internet-like technology that is designed to enable electronic chat, e-mail and Voice over Internet Protocol communications capabilities.

Officials say the $21 million award to General Dynamics is part of an effort to upgrade COCs with network-centric capabilities to support advanced situational awareness and critical decision-making.

"This effort begins the transition of the Marine Corps Combat Operations Center from a hardware-based system to a secure, software-enabled command and control system that will also facilitate rapid integration of new technologies as they become available," Manny Mora, General Dynamics C4 Systems vice president and general manager for Battle Management Systems, said in a statement.
