BAE awarded low-rate production deal

NASHUA, N.H., June 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems a low-rate production contract for the company's electronic countermeasure technology.

British company BAE was awarded the contract to support the Navy's Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures system. Under the $33.6 million low-rate initial production deal, BAE will provide the Navy with its ALE-55 system.

The ALE-55, an onboard electronic frequency converter designed to jam enemy missiles, will go to support the IDECM system defend against potential threats.

"We conducted a very successful production readiness review and believe BAE Systems will continue to perform, produce, and deliver a very capable system," Capt. Paul Overstreet, Naval Air Systems Command representative, said in a statement.

"The ALE-55 will significantly enhance self-protection for our aircraft across a range of threats."
