Three Florida counties select Embarq tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 8 (UPI) -- Embarq announced law enforcement agencies from three counties in Florida have signed on to participate in the company's next-generation emergency call service.

Lake, Okaloosa and Walton counties received a grant from the state of Florida to participate in Embarq's E911 network. Company officials say the E911 network is designed to support interoperable multimedia input at Public Safety Answering Points, or call centers.

The next-generation technology is part of an effort to lower costs at call centers and increase dispatcher efficiencies.

"We are looking forward to working with an innovative provider willing to work on the cutting edge of E911 technology," Michelle Gatlin, E911 coordinator for Walton County, said in a statement.

"Embarq is providing that solution."
