MARIETTA, Ga., June 8 (UPI) -- The Sultanate of Oman has contracted Lockheed Martin for the company to deliver a C-130J Super Hercules heavy lift aircraft.
U.S. company Lockheed Martin was awarded the contract from Oman to produce and deliver its Super Hercules in the longer C-130J-30 configuration by mid-2012.
The contract for a new Super Hercules, an aircraft deployed by 11 countries, is part of an effort by Oman to add to its current fleet of three C-130Hs purchased in the early 1980s.
"The C-130J is ideally suited to the operating conditions found in Oman and other areas of the Gulf," Jim Grant, Lockheed Martin vice president for business development, said in a statement.
"Again we see a country that has recognized all the proven qualities of this world-leading airlifter purchasing additional aircraft."
