YUMA PROVING GROUNDS, Ariz., June 2 (UPI) -- A recent test of an Israel Military Industries-Raytheon precision-guided mortar was successfully conducted.
U.S. company Raytheon developed a next-generation 120 mm precision-guided mortar with Israel Military Industries. Raytheon recently conducted a test of the mortar technology as part of a cooperative research and development agreement demonstration with the U.S. Army.
Officials say the mortar, a global positioning system-guided round known as 120GM Dagger, successfully hit eight out of nine target areas during the test demonstration.
"The warfighter needs a precision-guided mortar and Dagger meets that requirement," Bill Patterson, Raytheon Dagger program manager, said in a statement.
"Dagger has demonstrated a high level of maturity, and we are ready to put it in production and get it to the soldiers in the field immediately."
