FAIRFAX, Va., June 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted General Dynamics to provide engineering services for a modernization effort at the Military Sealift Command.
U.S. company General Dynamics says its Information Technology business unit was awarded the contract. Under the $47 million deal, General Dynamics will provide Military Sealift Command vessels with engines and auxiliary systems modernization support.
The one-year engineering services deal, which includes options for four additional years, will be conducted through the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Italy, Japan and Guam along with four U.S. sites.
"General Dynamics understands that modernizing these vessels is critical for continued success in the 21st century," Bill Cobb, General Dynamics Information Technology representative, said in a statement.
"We will support the U.S. Navy and the Military Sealift Command in its vital mission of delivering supplies and conducting operations around the world."
