WILLIAMTOWN, Australia, June 1 (UPI) -- The Royal Australian Air Force has contracted a BAE Systems Australia and L-3 MAS Canada team to maintain its fleet of F/A-18 Hornet aircraft.
BAE and partner L-3 were awarded the approximately $121 million contract to provide maintenance services for the Australian air force's F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft until 2012.
The contract, which includes options to extend deal for six additional years, is part of an effort to ensure the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft can continue to provide optimal air combat capabilities for the Australian air force.
"The awarding of this contract is another example of BAE Systems' ability to provide best value through-life support for the Royal Australian Air Force," Jim McDowell, BAE Systems Australia managing director, said in a statement.
"It further strengthens our already significant readiness and sustainment capability."
