GROTON, Conn., May 26 (UPI) -- General Dynamics has been contracted by the U.S. Navy to provide repairs to the USS Hartford submarine.
U.S. company General Dynamics says its Electric Boat unit was awarded the contract. Under the $15.8 million deal, General Dynamics will provide repairs and maintenance services to the USS Hartford (SSN-768), one of the Navy's Los Angeles-class attack submarines.
The Navy contracted General Dynamics to restore the USS Hartford following damage sustained to the submarine in a collision with the USS New Orleans (LPD-18) in March.
According to a news release, General Dynamics will provide the USS Hartford with "planning work, material procurement and fabrication of a hull patch and a bridge access trunk, as well as planning and material procurement for the port retractable bow plane."
