BAE to refurbish Bradleys

ARLINGTON, Va., May 20 (UPI) -- BAE Systems announced it has been selected by the U.S. Army to support the refurbishment of battle-damaged heavy infantry vehicles.

British company BAE was awarded the contract through a partnership with the Army's Red River Army Depot. Under the $601 million deal, BAE will repair and provide upgrades for 606 of the Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

The refurbishment contract is part of an effort by the Army to extend the life of its fleet of Bradley Fighting Vehicles following combat use and return the vehicles to pre-deployment operational status.

"The Bradley plays an integral role in the Army's Heavy Brigade Combat Teams," Joe McCarthy, BAE Heavy Brigade Combat Teams Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

"By resetting these vehicles to pre-deployment condition, we will make sure that our troops are able to continue to execute the mission."
