MCLEAN, Va., May 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has contracted Alion Science and Technology to support the Mark XIIA Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe system.
U.S. company Alion will provide modeling and simulation services to the military's new friend or foe identification system.
Under the $1.5 million delivery order Alion will support the Mark XIIA Mode 5 system with modeling and simulation services to help improve the system's ability to ensure accurate ID capabilities and enhanced situational awareness to prevent casualties from friendly fire in combat.
"These improvements can help ensure our warfighter's safety by giving them more effective identification tools," Sue Archer, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Operational Solutions Group, said in a statement.
"Our engineering design and analysis will help forge the next generation of technology in combat."
