HUNT VALLEY, Md., May 15 (UPI) -- U.S. company AAI Corp. announced its small unmanned aircraft system has successfully completed a fully autonomous flight during a recent demonstration.
AAI said its Aerosonde Mark 4-series small UAS was recently tested at the Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range in Kansas. Company officials said the small UAS aircraft successfully completed a fully autonomous flight from takeoff to landing using AAI's One System Remote Video Terminal technology.
The Aerosonde Mark 4-series is designed to conduct intelligence and surveillance operations for the U.S. military. AAI also announced the successful simultaneous demonstration of two of its electric Orbiter small UAS aircraft.
"This successful demonstration in Kansas highlights the flexibility of our small unmanned aircraft," Steven Reid, vice president of unmanned aircraft systems, said in a statement.
"The Aerosonde and Orbiter (small UAS) deliver robust performance and multi-mission capability."
