AS&E scanner maintenance contract renewed

BILLERICA, Mass., May 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. government has renewed a contract with American Science and Engineering Inc. to provide maintenance services for its mobile X-ray screening system.

U.S. company AS&E was awarded a $2.3 million follow-on deal to continue providing maintenance and other life-cycle-management services for its Z Backscatter Vans deployed by the U.S. government.

AS&E's Z Backscatter Van screening system is an X-ray technology built into a delivery van capable of immediate field deployments to counter security threats.

"Our service teams are working very closely with U.S. government officials to maintain the ZBVs' detection and performance requirements for counter-terrorist applications in war zones," Anthony Fabiano, AS&E president and chief executive, said in a statement.
