Army contracts for de-icing support tech

ARLINGTON, Va., April 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has awarded Defense Holdings Inc. a Phase III contract for the continued development of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter de-icing support technologies.

U.S. company Defense Holdings was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research Phase III contract for the continued development of its metal fiber brushes, which were originally developed for use in U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.

Under the five-year, $9.8 million deal, Defense Holdings will team with Virginia-based HiPerCon for the development of the MFB technology for use with the Black Hawk helicopter de-icing systems.

Officials said the contract work, awarded through the Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate, will take place in Virginia.
