SAN DIEGO, April 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Homeland Security Department has contracted Science Applications International Corp. to support to the Center for Domestic Preparedness.
U.S. company SAIC was awarded the contract from the Homeland Security Department's Federal Emergency Management Agency. Under the $104 million deal, SAIC will provide FEMA's Alabama-based Center for Domestic Preparedness with training support services.
Officials said SAIC will support the center, which is the only federally chartered weapons of mass destruction training center, with all-hazards emergency-response training operations.
"In the past 10 years, through the CDP, SAIC has trained more than 500,000 emergency responders from state, local, federal and tribal governments, foreign governments and private entities," John Ferriter, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, said in a statement.
"We are honored to continue our support of the CDP, helping emergency responders gain the critical skills and confidence necessary to manage domestic incidents, regardless of cause."
