FARMINGDALE, N.Y., April 16 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin has awarded a follow-on contract to Telephonics Corp. for the delivery of additional multimode radar technologies.
Telephonics was awarded a $99.3 million contract from Lockheed Martin for its AN/APS-147 multimode radar system and subsystem spares.
The AN/APS-147, a fully integrated identification friend or foe radar technology, is deployed by Lockheed Martin in the U.S. Navy's MH-60R multi-mission helicopters. Officials said the AN/APS-147 radars are designed to add protections for the helicopters from enemy submarines and surface vessels.
"The high reliability of the AN/APS-147 radar/IFF subsystem increases the availability and mission effectiveness of the MH-60R helicopter fleet wherever it is deployed around the world," Joseph Battaglia, Telephonics president, said in a statement.
"We look forward to a long and successful program supporting Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy."
