WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn., April 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has contracted Hamilton Sundstrand to provide its chemical warfare-detection spectrometers.
U.S. company Hamilton Sundstrand received the contract from the Defense Department Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense. Under the $40 million contract, Hamilton Sundstrand will provide as many as 156 of its Chemical Biological Mass Spectrometer II devices.
The CBMS II is designed to support the detection of chemical warfare agents from reconnaissance vehicles "without the need for reagents or other consumables" in hostile environments where the U.S. military is deployed, according to a news release.
"This award positions Hamilton Sundstrand as a key systems supplier to the JPEO-CBD, but more importantly, the CBMS II will provide safety for our military personnel on critical missions in extremely hostile settings," Robert Leduc, Hamilton Sundstrand president of flight systems and U.S. government classified programs, said in a statement.
