EDA contracts consortium for Simclairs

BRUSSELS, April 13 (UPI) -- The European Defense Agency has contracted a four-company consortium for a radar-system project to support unmanned aerial vehicle radio-frequency payloads.

The EDA contracted Saab, Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems, Thales Systemes Aeroportes, and Thales U.K. to support the Studies for Integrated Multifunction Compact Lightweight Airborne Radars and Systems project.

The four-company consortium, selected for having been "successfully involved in past and present airborne radar and equipment development in Europe," will be expected to deliver new technology solutions that support light and compact UAV radio-frequency payloads, the EDA said in a news release.

The four-year Phase I contract is worth approximately $27.9 million and, if successful, will continue to a second phase.
