DataPath to support Army SATCOM

DULUTH, Ga., April 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted DataPath Inc. to support a satellite communication system terminals upgrade to enable operation in Ka band in addition to Ku band.

Under the contract, U.S. company DataPath will supply the Army's deployed DataPath satellite transportable terminals with Ka band spares kits.

The $35 million deal is part of effort by the Army to enable its deployed SATCOM terminals to operate over the new wideband global SATCOM system in Ka band and in the commercial Ku band.

"Delivering Ka band capability today puts greater bandwidth in the hands of warfighters to enhance communications, deliver real-time intelligence, and support mission effectiveness," Tom Dyer, DataPath chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We've been delivering on this contract since January, and our exceptional manufacturing and field services personnel are focused on getting the job done right and on time."
