STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 30 (UPI) -- The Australian Ministry of Defense has contracted Saab to supply communication technologies for the Royal Navy's Anzac- and Canberra-class ships.
Sweden-based Saab was awarded the contract from the Australian Defense Materiel Organization. Under the approximately $30.2 million contract, Saab will be responsible for the development of a multi-link communication capability for the Royal Navy.
Officials said the five-year development deal for the Anzac- and Canberra-class ships' communication technologies will be done at Saab's Adelaide facility in Australia.
Saab, which is also under contract with the Royal Navy for combat-systems design expertise and other support services for the Anti-Ship Missile Defense project, said the multi-link communication "is a key capability that will be reused worldwide in Saab's combat-management systems, fighter command and control systems and similar environments," according to a news release.
