QinetiQ announces CBRNE add-on

MCLEAN, Va., March 27 (UPI) -- U.S. company QinetiQ North America announced a new radiation sensor add-on for its widely deployed Talon robot technology.

QinetiQ said its Technology Solutions Group has made its chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosive kit available as an add-on upgrade for the company's new and existing models in the Talon family of robots.

The modular CBRNE kit plug-and-play upgrade for the Talon provides the robot with sensors that can detect radiation, nerve agents and explosives materials. The Talon is used to keep soldiers and emergency response personnel at a safe distance when disarming roadside bombs and other explosive threats.

"I think one of the reasons that Talon is the most popular robot in theater today is the fact our team listens to the war fighters and creates capabilities based on their feedback," William Ribich, QinetiQ Technology Solutions Group president, said in a statement.

"The CBRNE/Hazardous Material kit is just the latest in a series of new modules we plan for our Talons."
