MSA to supply U.S. with combat helmets

PITTSBURGH, March 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department's Defense Supply Center Philadelphia has contracted MSA to supply its Advanced Combat Helmets.

U.S. company MSA -- a developer of ballistic helmets for the defense markets in Europe, Canada and the United States -- was awarded $45 million to stock the supply center with its Advanced Combat Helmets.

Original production of the helmets began through a partnership with the U.S. Army in 2002 to address helmet concerns for soldiers operating in military theaters. The Advanced Combat Helmet is now the Army's standard basis of issue.

"This award represents a new and exciting phase of Advanced Combat Helmet production at MSA," Bill Lambert, MSA president and chief executive, said in a statement.

"We're grateful for the trust the U.S. military has placed in MSA and for the opportunity to continue to serve as a partner in the effort to provide our fighting men and women in uniform with the highest level of protection possible."
