HUNT VALLEY, Md., March 10 (UPI) -- AAI Corp. announced the launch of its next-generation small unmanned aircraft system designed to support evolving intelligence and surveillance requirements.
AAI released its new Mark 4.7, part of the company's Aerosonde family of small UAS technologies, after the successful completion of recent testing at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.
The Mark 4.7, launched Tuesday at the 2009 Australian International Air Show, is equipped with a multi-sensor system and extended endurance capabilities in support of maritime missions.
"The Aerosonde Mark 4.7 is designed to meet the requirements of tactical and maritime missions when persistent intelligence and surveillance are required," Steven Reid, AAI vice president of unmanned aircraft systems, said in a statement.
"Like our entire family of Aerosonde small UAS, the Mark 4.7 also incorporates features for ease of use. It is capable of fully autonomous flight, including takeoff and landing, as well as catapult launch and innovative recovery methods."
