MONTVILLE, N.J., March 5 (UPI) -- Marotta Controls has been contracted to continue production support for the U.S. Air Force's precision strike GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb.
New Jersey-based Marotta was contracted by Carleton Technologies to supply its pneumatic firing-valve technologies for the Boeing-made Small Diameter Bomb widely used by the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The 250-pound Small Diameter Bomb allows the Air Force to equip its fighter aircraft with more weapons than if they carried larger traditional bombs.
"As the Small Diameter Bomb continues to prove its effectiveness in areas of conflict, demand for this low-cost precision-strike weapon continues to be strong with our joint operations and allies," Michael Leahan, Marotta vice president and chief sales officer, said in a statement.
