Oshkosh delivers M-ATVs for evaluation

OSHKOSH, Wis., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- In response to a solicitation from the U.S. Army, Oshkosh Corp. announced it has delivered two new mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles for evaluation.

Wisconsin-based Oshkosh has delivered two MRAP All Terrain Vehicles that are "production representative" to the Army for testing and evaluation. The delivery is in response to a call from the Army for an MRAP vehicle with mobility capabilities that address the requirements of the Afghan combat theater's rugged terrain.

Oshkosh, which partnered with Plasan North America on the M-ATV armor system, said its vehicle is designed to have system and engineering commonality with the Defense Department's fleet of MRAP vehicle variants already in Afghanistan in a move to reduce logistics and maintenance costs among other common-platform advantages.

"The two Oshkosh M-ATVs … offer unmatched survivability and off-road mobility and incorporate existing military-tested components that make it the best value to the government and the taxpayer," John Stoddart, Oshkosh executive vice president and defense-business president, said in a statement.

"These vehicles need to operate in some of the most rugged terrains in the world. An accelerated yet effective durability test will prove the Oshkosh M-ATV to be the most reliable and mobile vehicle available for the military's urgent need to navigate the extreme terrain in Afghanistan."
