AS&E awarded follow-on deal for X-ray tech

BILLERICA, Mass., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- American Science and Engineering Inc. has received a follow-on contract for the company to deliver several of its threat-detection scanning vans.

Massachusetts-based X-ray technology developer AS&E has been awarded a follow-on contract from an unnamed government agency in the Middle East. Under the $2.9 million deal, AS&E will deliver its trademarked Z Backscatter Van X-ray systems.

AS&E officials say the Z Backscatter Vans, capable of detecting explosives threats and weapons, will be configured for harsh environments.

"We are very pleased that this customer chose to add to their existing fleet of Z Backscatter Vans to secure government facilities," Anthony Fabiano, AS&E president and chief executive, said in a statement.

"The Z Backscatter Van provides this Middle Eastern customer with unmatched mobility and versatility to face a broad range of security challenges."
