Navy contracts for subs refurbishment

MANCHESTER, N.H., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Granite State Manufacturing to provide the Navy's fleet of submarines with refurbishment services.

New Hampshire-based GSM was awarded the follow-on contract to expand its existing business with the Navy. Under the $26 million deal, GSM will support the Navy's submarine fleet with antenna, periscope and communication systems refurbishment services.

GSM, a longtime provider of engineering and program management services to the Navy, was awarded the contact for its in-house hydraulic marine systems and precision mechanical capabilities to support the submarine fleet.

"We are honored to continue Granite State Manufacturing's long tradition of building precision components for the U.S. Navy fleet of submarines," John Allard, GSM chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"This contract further strengthens our core manufacturing business and will allow us to maintain and grow our employment here in Manchester (N.H.) and Baltimore."
