Vehicle refurbishment facility opens

KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- VSE Corp announced the completion of a route-clearing vehicle refurbishment facility in Kuwait to support U.S. military operations in the region.

U.S. company VSE recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its new route-clearing vehicle refurbishment facility. The 900,000-square-foot facility in Kuwait was established to help the U.S. military sustain its fleet of specialized vehicles that clear roadways in Iraq and Afghanistan of roadside bombs, improvised explosive devices and other explosive threats.

Officials say the new facility's location in Kuwait is part of an effort to address delays in returning route-clearance vehicles back to operational capacity without having to ship the vehicles to the United States or elsewhere for repairs.

"This facility and storage area was designed and configured to provide depot-level modernization and repair of the U.S. Army's V-Hull route-clearing and mine resistant ambush protected vehicles," Tom Dacus, VSE federal group president, said in a statement.

"The establishment of this multiuse capable complex is a milestone for both VSE and the U.S. military in the region. This project comes on the heels of VSE's highly successful tanker ballistic protection system designed to protect large fuel carriers in transit."
