British contract ATK for Apache ammunition

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The British Ministry of Defense has contracted Alliant Techsystems to deliver tactical and training ammunition to support Apache helicopter requirements.

Under the follow-on deal, Minneapolis-based ATK, a supplier of medium-caliber weapon systems and ammunition, will provide the British Defense Ministry with its lightweight 30mm M789 High Explosive Dual Purpose tactical ammunition and also its M788 training ammunition.

British officials say the $36 million contract is part of a sustainment program and the ammunition will go to support the fleet of AH-64 Apache helicopters.

The order for M789 ammunition is a follow-on from a previous $19 million deal from the British Defense Ministry.
