PINE BROOK, N.J., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marshals Service has contracted Smiths Detection to support security efforts at federal courthouses with X-ray technologies.
U.S. company Smiths Detection was awarded the Marshals Service's contract to deliver its HI-SCAN 6046si X-ray high-resolution image screening systems. Officials say the HI-SCAN technology offers the Marshals Service the ability to quickly scan bags and briefcases, among other personal items, at security checkpoints.
Under the $3.5 million deal, Smiths Detection will deliver HI-SCAN systems for installation at U.S. federal courthouse buildings as part of an effort to increase the level of security.
"This order underlines the broad application of our advanced X-ray systems in providing security solutions to critical infrastructures such as courthouses and other public buildings," Cherif Rizkalla, Smiths Detection Security and Inspection president, said in a statement.
