Defense Prize awarded to Elbit Systems

HAIFA, Israel, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Israel-based Elbit Systems Ltd. announced it has received the annual Israel Defense Prize for two military system developments.

The Israel Defense Prize presented by Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak was awarded to Elbit Systems as a result of the company's contribution to enhancing Israel's security.

The 2007 Israel Defense Prize for development of an innovative system for ground forces was awarded to Elbit Systems' subsidiary Elbit Electro-Optics Systems Elop Ltd. The award was presented jointly to Elop and to the company's partners, teams from the Israel Defense Force Ground Forces Command and the Directorate of Defense research and development of the Israel Ministry of Defense.

The 2007 Israel Defense Prize for the development of a system based on advanced technological components was awarded to 70 percent Elbit Systems subsidiary Elisra Electronic Systems Ltd. The prize was awarded together with teams from MAFAT and the Israel Air Force.

"Being awarded the Israel Defense Prize is a great honor to the teams that participated in these projects," said Joseph Ackerman, president and chief executive officers of Elbit Systems, in a statement. "It is an indication not only of their advanced technological capabilities and creativity, but, first and foremost, of the extensive cooperation and interaction between our company and the Israel Defense Forces. We see the IDF as a strategic partner and are proud of our ability to support Israel's defense efforts and to provide the IDF with world leading solutions."
