S.Korea trade minister to visit U.S.

SEOUL, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- South Korean Trade Minister Kim Hyun-chong will visit the United States next week to discuss the free trade negotiations, Seoul officials said Friday.

During his two-day trip on Feb. 26-27, Kim will meet U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab and U.S. business leaders, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement.

The visit comes ahead of the eighth round of free trade talks slated for March 8-12 in Seoul, seen as the most crucial round yet in seeking to iron out differences to finalize an agreement.

The two countries also plan to hold high-level farm talks in early March to remove hurdles in free trade negotiations.

Agriculture has been one of the key stumbling blocks in the free trade talks the two countries want to conclude before the end of March.
