BERLIN, May 15 (UPI) -- In Berlin, Germany, Saturday night three unidentified individuals attacked an Italian man with a baseball bat.
Three bald-headed men asked the 30-year-old victim where he came from; when he replied that he was Italian, they attacked him with a baseball bat, yelling "bloody foreigner" at him. They hit his head and body with the bat and then ran away, according to the online daily Netzeitung.
The Italian was rushed to a hospital where doctors performed an emergency operation.
It is believed the attackers are part of Germany's neo-Nazi movement.
Berlin's Interior Senator Erhart Koerting condemned the crime, saying authorities would do anything to capture the attackers.
"Such acts embarrass Berlin and we won't tolerate them," he said.
It is the second xenophobic attack in less than a month in the region, after a black German in nearby Potsdam was attacked by two neo-Nazis.
