Atlanta bombing suspect arrested

MURPHY, N.C., May 31 (UPI) -- Eric Robert Rudolph, the key suspect in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing, was found digging through a dumpster early Saturday and arrested in North Carolina's southeast corner, local and federal officals announced.

FBI Special Agent Mark Swecker, the lead federal officer for the case, said Rudolph was wanted for several bombings since his indictment in January 1998 on "multiple charges, multiple indictments." The charges include an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Ala., and two other bombings in Atlanta -- one a nightclub popular with homosexuals -- in addition to the July 27, 1996, Olympics bombing. A woman was killed in that bombing and a police officer in the clinic explosion.
