Right and left prepare to fight Le Pen

PARIS, April 23 (UPI) -- Parties across the political spectrum on Tuesday began to try to cobble an exceptional union to defeat far-right candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen in the second round of France's presidential elections May 5. The Socialist Party has begun reuniting tattered factions of its leftist alliance after its leader -- Prime Minister Lionel Jospin -- suffered a stunning third-place finish in Sunday's polls.
