Rock Hall of Fame

By United Press International

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- A diverse class, ranging from the pre-punk Stooges to the pop darlings ABBA, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It was the 25th annual induction. Joining ABBA and the Stooges were Genesis, the Hollies and reggae songwriter Jimmy Cliff.

The musical spectrum covered by hall's class of 2010 is a testament to the influences the overall genre has drawn on over the decades of the Rock Era. The Hollies were, like ABBA, known for their Top 40 hits while Genesis, like the Stooges, were known for their progressive -- if very different than the Stooges -- take on music.

Also honored were songwriters Otis Blackwell, Mort Shuman, Jesse Stone, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, and record company executive David Geffen.
