FERNDALE, Mich., March 17 (UPI) -- Hundreds of singers at a Ferndale, Mich., cafe Monday were going for a world record for consecutive performances of the traditional Irish song "Danny Boy."
A.J. O'Neil, owner of A.J.'s Cafe, said the 50-hour "Danny Boy" marathon, which began Saturday and was to end Monday evening, featured non-stop crooning from a procession of singers, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.
"We had six church choirs in a row," he said Sunday, after the marathon had reached the 500-singer landmark. "And when the children sing, it just makes you cry."
He said a symbolic funeral would be held Monday evening to mark the completion of the feat.
