U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards Versar $17.1 million contract

SPRINGFIELD, Va., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Versar, Inc. received a $17.1 million construction from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to support construction projects in Afghanistan.

The contract includes two new task orders under the existing Personal Services Contract in Afghanistan, which provides engineer and technical staff to construction projects in the country. Versar officials say the new task orders represent continued growth in their four-year contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is set to expire in September 2016.

"Versar has been proud to participate in the United States Department of Defense's reconstruction and capacity development efforts in Afghanistan since 2006," Versar CEO Tony Otten said in a statement. "The continuation and growth of this contract is validation of Versar's ability to provide long term and cost effective engineering oversight for active construction projects anywhere in the world."

Versar is a global project management company with 23 locations around the world. The company has been providing technical and management support for government projects in the United States since 1969. In addition to engineers, the company also provides architects, chemists, environmental scientists, and other services.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established their Transatlantic Afghanistan division in July 2013, supporting construction projects for Afghan National Security Forces including civil infrastructure, schools, healthcare, transportation and others.
