AM General's JLTV offering complets off-road testing

SOUTH BEND, Ind., July 20 (UPI) -- AM General's offered replacement vehicle for the U.S. military's Humvee successfully completed month of off-road government testing, the company says.

The testing of the Blast Resistant Vehicle - Offroad (cq) was part of the engineering, manufacturing and development phase of the Army's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program, in which 22 prototype vehicles from each contender is being evaluated.

"As the most experienced light tactical vehicle company in the world, having designed, tested, built and fielded more than 1.5 million vehicles, we are very pleased with BRV-O's performance to date and EMD testing was very much in line with our projections," said AM General Vice President of Business Development and Program Management Chris Vanslager. "We look forward to getting this modern and innovative vehicle that provides unmatched situational awareness, protection, performance and payload at an affordable price into the hands of our customers as soon as possible.

The BRV-O features a modular armored crew capsule, a high-performance engine and transmission powertrain; a self-leveling suspension, and a C4ISR open-standard networked architecture communication and computer system.

AM General's competitors for the JLTV are Lockheed Martin and Oshkosh Defense.
